Florida Hospitals Rank High in U.S. News “Best Hospital” Rankings

U.S. News & World Report recently published rankings that reveal that the Mayo Clinic and its nationwide system of hospitals are the most highly rated facilities in the nation. The rankings are based on various factors including mortality, readmission rates, and outcomes, and are designed to provide a picture of a hospital’s overall ability to successfully treat individuals.

Mayo Clinic was chosen out of 4,500 hospitals across the United States based on exceptional treatment across 25 different specialties, procedures, and conditions. Of the 4,500 hospitals considered, only 158 ranked nationally in at least one specialty. The Mayo Clinic ranked nationally in 15 out of the 16 specialties examined and made the top three for the Cardiology and Heart Surgery, Cancer, and Orthopedics specialties.

Jacksonville, Florida is home to one of the Mayo Clinic’s primary campuses, which was ranked as the number one hospital in Florida by U.S. News & World Report. Florida is also home to many other nationally recognized hospitals, including Tampa General Hospital, which ranked nationally in six specialties, and Cleveland Clinic in Weston, which ranked nationally in two specialties.

In Florida, we are lucky that we have access to high-quality care, which can make a difference to anyone facing a challenging diagnosis. However, just because a hospital is ranked nationally does not mean that its doctors do not make mistakes. Any hospital and its doctors always run the risk that, out of thousands of diverse patients and illnesses, they will make mistakes that result in harm to their patients. When these mistakes are made, a hospital and the doctors they employ should not be able to escape responsibility simply because of their reputation.

If you or a loved one suffered an injury which you believe was a result of the negligence of a hospital or its staff, do not avoid confronting these professionals simply because the hospital in question is highly regarded or well-ranked. Anyone who suffers an injury due to medical malpractice is entitled to understand their rights and whether they can file a claim for compensation. Consult with an experienced Florida medical malpractice attorney so you can make a fully-informed decision in your pursuit of legal recourse.
