Florida Cities With The Largest Number of Poorly Ranked Nursing Homes

In Florida, there are 155 nursing home facilities that have received either a 1- or 2-star overall quality rating by the U.S. Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS). This star quality rating is a system created by CMS so you can make an informed decision about the right facility for your loved one.

The quality rating is based on data collected from the (CMS) health inspection database, a national database of resident clinical data known as the Minimum Data Set (MDS), and Medicare claims data.

Based on the information that is provided, you can learn:

  • How nursing homes have performed on health and fire safety inspections

  • How the nursing home is staffed with nurses and other healthcare providers

  • How well nursing homes care for their residents.

There are many wonderful nursing home facilities in Florida that have received a 5-star rating for quality of care. Unfortunately, there are currently 155 nursing homes in Florida whose rating is considered “Below Average” (2 stars) or “Much Below Average” (1 star).

The good news is that the majority of homes in Florida have received 3 stars or more. If you have a loved one in a nursing home facility, make sure to look at their quality rating. The cities with the largest number of poorly rated nursing homes are listed below:

TAMPA 10 SARASOTA 9 SAINT PETERSBURG 7 JACKSONVILLE 6 GAINESVILLE 5 CLEARWATER 5 MIAMI 5 WEST PALM BEACH 4 ORLANDO 4
